Design Ideas
Community Allotment
The allocation of a community allotment is to contribute to sustainable living. On average, 1/4 of Newham residents are estimated to earn below London's average living wage, however, this allocation will help provide a cost-effective, healthy lifestyle. Additionally, it helps being together 'like-minded' people in the community.
Community Cafe
Integrating a community cafe provides a safe space for people to relax, connect and socialise, whilst creating a meaningful and responsible contribution to the community. We hope the cafe will continue to empathise strong community ties of Newham, especially the diversity of cultures. This service will also provide the people of Newham the opportunity to make food for the cafe, whether it is donated or made for a small price. This will also act as a hub for volunteering venues.
East End Community Foundation
We hope to work alongside the East End Community Trust Foundation to help make a lasting change to the levels of deprivation and poverty surrounding East London. This trustworthy organisation distribute funds to those who need them most. This partnership will help make decision-making and the power balance fair.
Sustainable and Holistic Regeneration
We want to build strong partnerships between all stakeholders involved in this regeneration process, who contain the crucial shared vision for sustainable and community-based redevelopment.
Case Study: Homebaked Community Land Trust
Homebaked Community Land Trust is an increasing group of local residents who work in unison to improve the community where they live and work. This case study is associated with Newham regeneration as the Community Land Trust shapes places through ownership and meaningful regeneration. The organisation saved their neighbourhood bakery from demolition, into a thriving community business and started to transform terrace housing into high quality, sustainable and generally affordable housing. Their goals are realistic and value equality.
For Newham, the creation of the community café will protect the identity of Newham, whilst providing an inclusive and accessible environment for all.

E16 CLT was set up by the PEACH organisation - this is a powerful group who want to make sure regeneration for Custom House works for everyone.
PEACH has been working alongside the Custom House neighbourhood to make improvements to 4 key areas voted on by the local community: Jobs & Education, Housing & Regeneration, Safety and Health since 2013.
