Proposed Allocation of Meanwhile Uses

Commerical meanwhile uses.jpg

Temporary Ideas

1. Multifunctional room for classes, such as yoga
2. Art studio and gallery
3. Community café
4. Main office for 'Our Newham' organisation
5. Deli and evening restaurant
6. Local library and workspace

The intentional variety of uses will help create a vibrant and lively environment. Community participation and involvement is essential for cultural-led regeneration. The incorporation of the community café where goods will be community provided will create a strong identity.

The central allocation of the 'Our Newham' office will support residents in work, and provide the opportunity to upgrade skills or change to a higher paying job.

The design on the ground floor units are purposefully flexible and adaptable to allow various pop-up events or other happenings to be accommodated. This form of resilience is a long-term response.

Consideration to Post-Covid Cities

The impacts of Covid-19 on our cities have made it essential that we need to rethink planning so places can be adaptable, resilient, and sustainable. This happening has initiated creativity and highlighted the main impacts our ‘traditional’ planned cities had on the communities. Both short and long-term tactical urbanism plays an important role in finding solutions for these challenges.
