Social and Other Facilities

These design ideas relate to Post-Covid cities, looking at what type of infrastructure is needed to make people want to spend time here, and creating a design that is responsive, adaptable and resilient. Our ideas reflect what would be most essential for everyday living, contributing to the quality of life.

Community Libary

Providing an intergenerational space for learning, open availability to information through books and computers, and a space to work. Although this will be a space for all, we hope it will be a hub for students at school and university to study.

Lighting

Lighting plays an essential role within an urban environment - mainly by making a place feel safe. Without this, willingness to utilise or move through public spaces after daylight hours will be low, especially for groups like women and the elderly. Investment in multi-range lighting for this site includes street lamps, floor lighting, underwater lights and fairy lighting on trees and over walkways.

Sensory Garden

Investment to create sensory-rich areas around the site will improve vitality and aesthetic appeal. This incorporation promotes both exercise and learning. This richness and visual appeal will encourage people to move, stay and relax in these areas.

Required Services

A post-Covid requirement is that the design will be sympathetic to the 15-minute city concept. We want to create a place that contains essential services that contribute to physical and mental well-being, like healthcare, food services, support and community groups and high-quality open spaces.
